The Most Overused Chord Progression Ever

Last Updated on

I don’t need to write much about this. These guys did a great mix of big songs that all use this chord progression. It’s fairly old but they updated with a few newer songs from the original one that came out in 2009.

Frankly, this chord progression makes me super-cringe when I hear it. Especially when it’s strummed on a guitar in a certain fashion (i.e. Dammit by Blink-182).

There’s something to be said about finding a formula that appears to work. However, the only way I would ever use this chord progression is as a joke or test to see the responses to it. Other than that, if I had a band member who made a serious attempt at a real song with this chord progression, I’d consider replacing them… or myself… haha.

Then there are bands who recycle chord progressions all the time, including this one we’re talking about.

I’ll save that for another time. In the meantime, here’s a bunch of hit songs you’ve heard using the same four chords. This only scratches the surface.
